Overview

Battlegrounds is a PvP game mode where players are placed into teams and compete head-to-head against another team.

The BG Information NPC upstairs in the Revenant Pub (re_pub01 91/76) explains the objective and win condition of every Battleground mode in-game, and @bginfo shows what is running right now.

Notes:

  • All classes in Battlegrounds are balanced. When you join you are placed on the team with fewer players of your class (Bards and Clowns count as one class), so both sides end up with a similar mix.
  • There is no longer a clown limit or a clown reward bonus.
  • Devotion and SPP work in Battlegrounds without requiring a party.
  • Any GM disguise or fake name on your character is removed when you enter a Battleground.

Schedule

Battlegrounds run during scheduled Happy Hours and start automatically. Each Happy Hour lasts 1 hour. When one match ends, the next mode begins recruiting right away for as long as the Happy Hour lasts.

Days Start Times (Server Time / UTC)
Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 14:00, 20:00, and 00:00

The Happy Hour rotation picks one of these modes at random each round, never the same mode twice in a row: Death Match, Stone Control, Conquest, Krieger von Midgard, Rush, Slay the King and Eye of Storm. The remaining modes only run when started by a GM.

Joining Battlegrounds

To join you must be level 85 or above on a transcendent class. Join using:

@joinbg

There is a 60 second cooldown on @joinbg after joining, leaving, or being kicked.

Queue with Party

If you are a party leader you can choose With Party to bring your party in together (up to 3 members). Every member must meet the join requirements. Parties join in pairs: your party waits until another party queues, then one party is placed on each side, on whichever side keeps the teams closest in size. If no other party queues within 60 seconds, or the round is about to start, your members are queued solo so nobody takes a late-join penalty.

Auto-rejoin

@bgauto toggles auto-rejoin for your character. When it is on and you finished the previous round, you are entered into the next round automatically with the same eligibility checks as @joinbg. It skips you if you are dead, vending, in an instance, or already on a castle or Battleground map.

Minimum Players

A match will not begin until both teams have at least 10 players. While the match is filling up, the server announces every 30 seconds how many more players are needed - just @joinbg to enter.

  • Once the minimum is reached, the round begins after a short countdown.
  • If there aren't enough signups within 5 minutes, the match is cancelled and everyone who signed up receives 10 Bravery Coins for waiting. A fresh match begins recruiting; two cancelled matches in a row end the Happy Hour early.

Late Joining

Signups stay open at full rewards for 1 minute after the match fills. After that, @joinbg still lets you into the match at any point, but as a late joiner:

  • You earn half the Bravery Coin rewards (rounded down).
  • The match does not count toward your win/loss record.

AFK Policy

Idle players are warned after 45 seconds and automatically kicked after 90 seconds. This also applies while the match is filling up, so stay active while you wait. Team leaders can additionally report AFK members with @reportafk.

Modes

Mode Map How it works Time limit
Death Match bat_b03 Each team starts with 50 points and loses 1 for every death. The first team to reach 0 loses; a team with nobody left forfeits. 15 min
Stone Control bat_b04 Carry stones from the six spawns in the middle of the field back to your base. Each delivered stone scores; first to 50 points wins. Protect the stones you have secured from theft. 15 min
Conquest Castle maps One team is randomly drawn as Attackers, the other as Defenders. Attackers must destroy the two Guardian Stones, then the three fortress gates in order, then the Emperium. Each gate becomes vulnerable only after the previous one falls. 6 min, plus 4 min added for every objective destroyed
Krieger von Midgard bat_c02 Each team starts with points equal to its size and every death costs 1. Reach 0 and you lose; if time runs out the team with more points wins. 30 s preparation, then 5 min
Rush rush_cas01–04 Capture the castle Emperium to become the Defender, then hold it. If the other team recaptures they take the lead; whoever holds the castle when time expires wins. No capture at all means no winner. 7 min
Slay the King bat_b03 Each team has a King: a randomly chosen player granted 2× HP, +50 to all stats, -50% variable cast time and -30% after-cast delay. Kings glow, are marked on the minimap for both teams, and cannot hide or cloak. Slay the enemy King to win. A King who leaves the battlefield counts as slain; a team with nobody left forfeits. 15 min, then 2 min sudden death on a tie
Eye of Storm bat_a02 Hold the North and South bases: each base you control awards points every 5 seconds, and holding both increases the gain. The flag in the middle can be captured and delivered to one of your bases for bonus points. First to 50 points wins. Until 50 points
Capture the Flag bat_b02 Take the enemy flag to your base while your own flag is at home. If your flag is taken, kill the carrier and return it. First to 3 captures wins. 15 min
Double Inferno region_8 Defeat enemy players, collect the skulls they drop, and turn them in at your Sacrifice Totem. Returning your own team's skulls denies the enemy. First to 50 points wins. 15 min
Flavius bat_b01 Destroy the opposing team's crystal to earn points. Each crystal is guarded by two Guardians that must be defeated first. Most points when the match ends wins. 30 min
Tierra Gorge bat_a01 Assault the enemy base and destroy their Food Storage. Barricades in the valley block the way and can be rebuilt by the defenders after they fall. The Neutrality Flag in the centre can be captured for an advantage: your team gets Camp Guardians at the flag and respawns from the middle of the map. 30 min, then a draw

For a fuller in-game description of any mode, talk to the BG Information NPC in the Revenant Pub (re_pub01 91/76) .

Carrying an objective (stone, flag, skull) pins your walking speed to a fixed unbuffed rate and blocks skills and items. In Stone Control the trailing team's carriers get a small speed boost for every 5 points they are behind.

Rewards

Every mode pays Bravery Coins:

Result Bravery Coins
Win 5
Loss or draw 2
Cancelled match (not enough players) 10 to everyone signed up
Slay the King: killing blow on the enemy King +1 bonus
Late joiner half of the above, rounded down

Staff can run bonus reward events that multiply these amounts; @bginfo shows when one is active.

In the case of Conquest, rewards scale with attacker progress: the winning side always earns the most, but Defenders lose a little for every objective they let fall. Every player receives at least 5 Bravery Coins.

Match Result Attacker Reward Defender Reward
Held: one or fewer Guardian Stones destroyed 5 Bravery Coins 12 Bravery Coins
Held: both Guardian Stones destroyed 6 Bravery Coins 11 Bravery Coins
Held: 2nd Fortress Gate destroyed 7 Bravery Coins 10 Bravery Coins
Held: 3rd Fortress Gate destroyed 8 Bravery Coins 9 Bravery Coins
Emperium destroyed (Attackers win) 12 Bravery Coins 5 Bravery Coins

Rankings

@bgrank (or the BG Leaderboard NPC in Prontera (prontera 148/193) ) shows:

  • Win/Loss ladder across all modes - requires at least 50 finished rounds; late joins do not count.
  • Kill/Death ladder per mode or overall - requires at least 50 kills.
  • My Record - your own wins, losses, and per-mode kills and deaths.

In-match Rules

  • The Therapist in battle (and auto-resupply) fully heals you, repairs your gear, refills your BG supplies, gives 30 minutes of Blessing and Increase Agility, and cures Slow Grace, Decrease Agility, Stone Curse and Freeze. It also restores a Super Novice's no-death bonus.
  • Those debuffs are also removed when you are warped out of the Battleground, and Slow Grace ends on death.
  • Halters and cash mounts are dismounted on entry.
  • Cart Termination and Maximum Over Thrust cost no Zeny on Battleground maps.
  • Meteor Assault's EDP bonus is halved in Battlegrounds, as in GvG.
  • Frost Joke and Scream rarely affect your own team (chance reduced to a quarter).
  • Barricades, Guardian Stones and gates cannot be healed.
  • Team guild skills (Emergency Call, Battle Orders, Regeneration, Restore) share a 5 minute cooldown per team and can be used more than once per match.
  • Marionette Control works on team members.
  • Players can be blacklisted from Battlegrounds for misconduct.
